The gala evening is in support of a new mammography unit for the breast assessment centre. The current unit needs to be replaced to improve the level of digital imaging, reduce wait times and improve patient outcomes. Breast cancer is the number one cancer in women in Canada and last year approximately 27,500 women were diagnosed with breast cancer, one in ten. Early detection through regular mammogram screening is the key to timely treatment and survival. We all know someone - women and some men - who have been faced with a breast cancer diagnosis.
