The Historical Society of Western Virginia’s Annual Fundraiser, “History is Served,” will be held Oct. 12, at Hotel Roanoke featuring author Rebecca Boggs Roberts. She will discuss her book Untold Power about Edith Bolling Wilson, a first lady born in Wytheville, Va.
According to the White House website, Edith Bolling Wilson was the second wife of the 28th President, Woodrow Wilson. She was First Lady from 1915 to 1921 and heavily involved in matters of state after the President suffered a stroke.
Roberts is currently deputy director of events at the Library of Congress and on the Editorial Advisory Committee of the White House Historical Association. She serves on the board of the National Archives Foundation, on the Council of Advisors of the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation. Her other books include The Suffragist Playbook: Your Guide to Changing the World; Suffragists in Washington, D.C.; The 1913 Parade and the Fight for the Vote; and Historic Congressional Cemetery.

History Is Served begins with a silent auction that includes individual items as well as packages of multiple items. A live auction and dinner follow the silent auction.
Individual tickets are $100; a table for 10 costs $1,250 and the Speaker’s Table for 8 is $2,500. Table purchases include valet parking, drink tickets and museum memberships.
