Hog August Bites is a fun family affair featuring a rib and chili cookoff with a car & truck show, craft and informational vendors, music, a People's Choice Chili contest and a People's Choice Rib contest as well as juried judging of both ribs and chili. There is a kid-zone with a water slide and a bounce house.

The event is hosted by RioVision a citizen-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to bring about city wide revitalization. The revitalization includes art in public places where artists (including youth) are asked to submit their vision to paint murals, fire hydrants, utility boxes or statues. The litter picker program which includes picking up litter in various public areas which includes families and students working together to keep Rio Vista a tidy river city. A yearly event that encourages youth and families to donate time at the event. Youth programs then receive donations to support their work from net proceeds of the event.
