A huge source of fundraising comes through the annual charitable auction at our Hope Rising luncheon. This year, it will take place on June 19th, 2021, through a hybrid event in which attendees can participate online or in-person, if possible. This event is typically attended by over 350 survivor advocates, law enforcement officials, politicians, and many other individuals who are active in combating the San Diego trafficking epidemic. The program will consist of human trafficking education, encouraging community leaders to join in the fight, and a charitable auction to raise the funds needed to support survivors through their undergraduate schooling at PLNU. As you may or may not know, the COVID-19 pandemic has been especially hard for survivors of sexual exploitation. Since March, the National Human Trafficking Hotline has been overrun with calls. As the pandemic continues, gaps in services are appearing because of required health screenings and logistical issues. At the Center for Justice and Reconciliation, we are seeing the devastating effects on the dreams of survivors. We are committed to empowering survivors through this exceptionally difficult time of instability through our programs and scholarships available to them.
