Description

Horizons is an award-winning, tuition-free academic and enrichment summer program serving public school students from the Germantown neighborhood in Philadelphia. Our goal is to advance equitable learning opportunities for students. We advance educational equity by building long-term partnerships with students, families, communities, and schools to create experiences outside of school that inspire the joy of learning.

Through a six-week summer enrichment program, each student in our community from PreKindergarten through Eighth Grade experiences learning within and beyond the classroom walls: reading, writing, mathematics, STEAM, theater, music, swimming lessons culturally relevant, assemblies, and field trips!

We invite you to join us in learning about the sense of wonder our students experience each Horizons summer at our Annual Spring Fundraiser. The Horizons model centers project-based learning and a “whole-child” approach to education in an effort to combat the traditional loss of learning in the summer. Over the past two summers, HGSFS students grew an average of 11.4 weeks in early literacy, 4.2 weeks in reading and 14.5 weeks in mathematics. Students also develop social-emotional competencies like the ability to create positive relationships with their peers, and learn how to swim. We are intentional about providing encouragement and support to our students as they establish a positive self-identity. This summer Horizons at GSFS will host its first graduation ceremony. It is an exciting milestone as we look back on our nine year journey that
started in 2016. Our spring event is the one major fundraiser we host each year. We hope you will help us to make this event a success by sponsoring this fun-filled evening and supporting Horizons’ students.
