Description

IN THE HEIGHTS Fundraiser by Christian Outreach in Action

Guests will attend a musical at the Pasadena Playhouse and will participate in a silent auction. We have rented out the theatre for this event. All proceeds go to Christian Outreach in Action.

Since 1981, Christian Outreach in Action (COA) is a non-denominational non-profit organization whose mission is to transform the lives of homeless and impoverished individuals in Long Beach and surrounding areas so they may reach and sustain self-sufficiency and independence. COA follows faith-based teachings that tell us to provide compassionate assistance to anyone in need. We have a foodbank, hot meals, clothes bank, diaper bank, hygiene kits, legal aid, and more.

Music and Lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda

Directed by Miguel Cardenas
Musical Direction by Gabrielle Maldonado and Stephen Olear
Choreography by Anthony Tuason
This joyful Tony award-winning musical tells the story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music.  Usnavi, owner of the corner bodega, dreams of going out with local salon worker, Vanessa, as she dreams of leaving the Heights for her own apartment in the West Village. When someone wins $96,000 in the lottery, everyone is faced with the possibility of their dreams, as the pull of the past and years of tradition color the change that is overtaking their lives and their community.
