Description

Donation would be used to support a Raffle fundraiser for the Lewis HS PTSA.   Raffle tickets will be sold the week of International Night -- an extremely popular school event celebrating the cultural diversity of our community.  The evening includes country-specific fashion shows, dance demonstrations, and food.  Compared to other high schools in the Fairfax County Public School system, John R. Lewis High School:

Has the smallest student body
Is one of the most culturally and racially diverse in Fairfax County
Has more than half of all students eligible for free or reduced meals

As a result of our limited size and economic constraints, our reliance on community support is much higher than neighboring, wealthier schools.  Despite these challenges, we have a lot to be proud of and hope you can support our continued success.   This year, our school received the Governor’s Exemplar Award for Continuous Improvement – one of only 27 awarded throughout the entire state.   We are on a positive trend with the Lewis Leadership Academy and improving test scores, and hope you can help us keep the successful strides at Lewis HS going!

Our primary objectives in the 2024-25 school year includes:

Needed school improvements that are beyond or outside of the Principal’s/FCPS budget
Educator grants and other recognition for our faculty, and staff
Support for programs like “Lewis Reads!” and Health Screening
Post-secondary education scholarships for high-achieving Seniors, and our annual alcohol and drug-free All Night Graduation Celebration for graduating Seniors

Our thanks for your tax deductible donation will be published on our website and through regular newsletters to the 4000+ parents, students and teachers associated with Lewis HS – in which we ask our community to support the businesses that support our school.
