Joan's Joy Child Safety Fest
Health Fair for Joan Angela D'Alessandro Memorial FoundationSep 30, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM
The Joan Angela D’Alessandro Memorial Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization (Tax ID 22-3594593), is named after 7 year old Brownie Scout, Joan. She was assaulted and murdered by her Hillsdale neighbor when she delivered Girl Scout cookies to him. Formed in 1998 to honor her legacy the Foundation promotes child safety via our Fun, Education and Safety Program advocating for children, victims and changes in legislation. In addition, we have given support to neglected and abused children through fun and educational excursions. We have sent at-risk children from the Holley Center in Hackensack, NJ to Great Adventure and have also sent them to see shows at Radio City. During the pandemic we provided the shelter with a steam cleaning machine and telehealth computers to help keep the children healthy. We also expanded the program to fund a new yoga therapy program for them and started a scholarship for a high school student who stands up for others. This year marks 30 years since our movement began.
On Saturday, September 30th from 2-5PM we are holding a 9th annual “Child Safety Fest” at the Joan Angela D’Alessandro White Butterfly Sculpture and Garden in front of the Hillsdale train station. It will be a free, fun family event to promote child safety education and awareness. Over 250 parents, children and supporters are expected to enjoy music, entertainment, informative and fun activities. This year will feature a butterfly release that will bring joy to all present. It is a free event however we are holding a raffle and offering sponsorship opportunities. The funds raised will go towards providing fun excursions and programs to benefit disadvantaged children and our child safety education programs.
