Description

The Junior Solar Sprint, a STEM education and engagement event, is open to all middle and junior high schools in the Philadelphia region. Hundreds of students design, build and race model solar cars, competing for prizes in Artistic, Sustainability and Technical Merit as well as Speed.  The Philadelphia Solar Energy Association (PSEA) will host the Sprint on the Drexel campus in late May of 2025.  Drexel University partners with PSEA to help mentor young students and introduce them to solar and clean energy fields and to engineering.    PSEA members,  solar professionals, engineers, artists, educators and many others volunteer hundreds of hours every year to make the Junior Solar Sprint possible.  This video provides a good idea of the race:Junior Solar Sprint

The Solar Sprint has inspired hundreds of young people to pursue careers and advanced education in engineering and clean energy over the years.  The program is open to all students,in  public and private schools and after school programs.  The Philadelphia Solar Energy Association, a local, volunteer based nonprofit organization, has sponsored the Junior Solar Sprint for more than 30 years in Philadelphia.
