Carnival/Festival for Long Island Scottish Festival and Highland Games CorporationAug 24, 2019 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
We are currently preparing for our 59th annual Long Island Scottish Festival and Highland Games to take place on Saturday August 24th, 2019 at the beautiful Old Westbury Gardens in Old Westbury, NY.
Our festival is one of the main income producers for Old Westbury Gardens, which is also a non-profit organization.
We (Long Island Scottish Festival and Highland Games) are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization for education and charitable purposes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code such purposes being: To organize, promote and present events to educate the general public about Scottish music, literature, art, religion, traditions, customs, heritage and culture and to preserve and foster the same. To give educational talks to the public and private organizations regarding Scottish history and culture and to participate in related ethnic festivals.
The money we make from our festival allows us to continue our festival year after year. more than anything, it is the money we make from raffles that affords us the abiblity to continue our tradition.
Our festival is attended by 6,000+ people, where they enjoy a shortbread competition, dancing, music, traditional Scottish food, vendors and of course our Highland Games where folks compete in the caber toss, putting of the stone and tossing the sheaf. There is also children's tents and a children's caber toss.
