The Hampton Falls Free Library is already planning for our summer reading program! We had a wonderful turnout last year, despite the ongoing pandemic, and we were able to bring a lot of performers to the library in person. It was wonderful to see the kids gathering together again. About 70 children participated in the program, and together they read for more than 1000 hours over the course of last summer. As always, we hope to increase the number of participants and books read this year, while encouraging a lifelong love of reading. The program is always well supported by our children and families, and we are looking forward to providing fun and educational services. Reading books helps prevent the “summer slide” caused by losing two months of learning while schools are not in session, and our hands-on library programs and activities encourage STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) development in children as well.

This summer's theme is “Oceans of Possibilities,” and we will be encouraging the children to read new books about ocean travel, marine wildlife, species rescue and preservation, and more. Similar to last summer, most of our in-person events will take place outdoors or in our local fire station, where we can open the bay doors on both ends of the building for extra air flow. We are cautiously optimistic that our summer will look “normal” for the first time in three years.
