Description

THE LLS MISSION: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.  LLS is at the forefront of the fight to cure cancer. Compared to other blood cancer nonprofits, LLS is the largest funder of cutting-edge research to advance cures. They have invested nearly $1.7 billion in research.  As the leading source of free blood cancer information, education and support for patients, survivors, families and healthcare professionals, LLS helps patients navigate their cancer treatment and ensures they have access to quality, affordable and coordinated care.  Through their nationwide grassroots network of more than 100,000 volunteers, LLS advocates for policies at the state and federal level in a commitment to remove barriers to care for cancer patients. Their efforts have helped increase federal research funds, speed the review and approval process of new therapies and ensure patients are able to access lifesaving treatments.

One of the LLS volunteer campaigns is Student Visionaries of the Year (SVOY).  The Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign is a seven week initiative in which nominated high school students, or teams of 2-3 students, participate in a fundraising challenge to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Candidates raise money in honor of a young, local patient hero who is battling or in remission from a blood cancer. The candidate or team who raises the most money at the end of the program is named Student Visionary of the Year for their local chapter, Orange County/Inland Empire.  Participants in the program learn these important skills: Leadership, Communication, Marketing, Finance and Budgets.

The culmination of the SVOY campaign is the Grand Finale held at the Anaheim Hills Golf Course on March 9, 2024.  Participants, their families, and LLS supporters gather to reveal and recognize team fundraising achievements as well as the collective total for the campaign.  Donors to the campaign are recognized in the Grand Finale program, on signage at the event, and on social media.  The size of the donation will determine the amount of recognition.  In-kind donations may be used as team incentives or as fundraising through raffle/auction.  Monetary donations will be used as team incentives to encourage weekly team participation in fundraising challenges.
