Description

This is your o'pawtunity to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon/evening at Emerald Isle Executive Golf Course and, at the same time, help young Oliver get an autism service dog. Join us for 18 holes of golf, on-course contests, awards, food and drinks in a laid back atmosphere where you can spend the day playing with friends, family and co-workers. Emerald Isle is welcoming to all skill levels – it’s perfect for new golfers, yet will challenge even the most experienced of golfers. There will be prizes to be won at every hole - and for those looking for a little extra help with their game, golf “improvement” kits will be available that include mulligans, putt-length reducers, foot wedges/a.k.a. get out of jail free cards, extra beer coupons, and raffle tickets.

Good Dog! Autism Companions is dedicated to bringing the benefits of the human-canine relationship to children and families living with autism. With an autism service dog by their side children and families can participate in life more fully and with greater ease. A service dog can be a life changer for a family! Oliver's family is one of them!

Meet Oliver:

Oliver is the Bache Family's precious baby boy. He has more energy than anyone I’ve ever seen. His heart is bursting with joy and happiness. Oliver is a very special child with a smile that lights up everyone around him. But there’s something about him that many of our friends and family are just finding out… Oliver was diagnosed with severe Autism Spectrum Disorder at 2 1/2 years old.

Why does Oliver Need an Autism Service Dog?
Many people don’t realize that autism service dogs are recognized by federal law (Americans with Disabilities Act) as a service dog.
Oliver’s service dog will open up a world of “paw-sibilities” for him!
His dog will be allowed access wherever he goes including schools, parks, doctor’s offices, restaurants, beaches, movie theaters, etc.

The specific tasks Oliver’s dog would be trained to do for him may include:

  • Provide deep pressure support when he is in a sensory meltdown by laying across him (or on his lap) to help ground, refocus, and regulate his sensory system.
  • Assist with social interactions, especially with other kids and people in the community. We hope this will give a visual reminder to them that not all disabilities are visible and hopefully they will treat him kindlier when he may be acting differently then they expect.
  • Provide emotional support for transitioning or high anxiety situations. Because let’s face it, isn’t everything easier to do when you have your best friend by your side?!
