Description

The Orang Utan Republik Foundation will be holding its 5th Annual Pongo Environmental Awards and Fundraiser in partnership with Building Bridges Art Exchange at the Bergamot Station in Santa Monica.

The main event will be a showing of "Princess-the Orangutan" a fascinating documentary about the life of an ex-captive, free-ranging orangutan who was home-reared and taught sign language in the jungles of Indonesian Borneo by Gary Shapiro in the late 1970s. Shapiro is the president and co-founder of the Orang Utan Republik Foundation. The video was made by Blink Films and produced by Animal Planet for the second season (2018) of their "Raised Human" series.

During the reception prior to the showing, guests will be able to enjoy light food and beverages, bid on silent auction items, learn about the work of the Foundation, and explore the Art Exchange gallery space. A live auction will also be held during the event.

The 5th Annual Pongo Environmental Awards will be presented to individuals and organizations who have made significant achievements that have contributed to the improved understanding and appreciation of orangutans and endangered species, rainforest habitat, and for improving conditions for orangutans and other animals globally.

The evening event will be limited to the first 100 people who purchase tickets for the event which will serve as a fundraiser for the Orang Utan Republik Foundation. Free parking will be available as well as access via the Metro Expo Line.
