Children's Resource & Referral of Santa Barbara County (CRR) has been a staple non-profit social service to low-income, at-risk, and foster children and families for 52 years in Santa Barbara County.

While implementing the Emergecy Child Care Bridge Program for Foster Children, CRR identified a significant gap not addressed or funded within the Bridge Progam Model.  When children are removed from their homes and placed with a Resource Family in emergency foster care, they arrive with very little to nothing that is salvageable or that they can call their own.  To address this barrier and to help with a healthy transition, CRR created the Heart to Home Resource Closet.  Launched in 2020, with the generous support of a local funder, CRR hosted diaper drives and fundraisers to fill the Resource Closet with essential items.  Believeing that every child should have their own "First Night Away" bag, this includes diapers, wipes, a jacket, a car seat, pajamas, a blanket, clothing, and a stuffed animal of their own.  Since then, CRR has provided nearly 400 children with the necessities to transition more comfortably.  The Resource Family can navigate those first vulnerable days when paired with the Bridge Program Mode.
