As a member of the International Association of Firefighters, it is my pleasure to inform you that IAFF Local 2195 is sponsoring the 21st annual Bryan C. Pottberg Memorial Golf Tournament on August 12th, 2024.  It will take place at the Lakewood Oaks Golf Course in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.  

In July of 1999, the Lee’s Summit Fire Department suffered its first and only “line-of-duty” death.  Bryan Christopher Pottberg died during a SCUBA diving accident while training for the fire department’s dive rescue team.  Out of respect for the loss of Bryan’s life in service to the City of Lee’s Summit, a park had been dedicated in his memory.  The park near Bowlin Road and I-470 had sat vacant for several years.  A sign was the only indication of its existence.

In cooperation with the Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation Department, the IAFF Local 2195 in Lee’s Summit changed that.  This charity golf tournament was initiated to create funding for the park.  Since the tournament’s inception, in excess of $90,000.00 has been raised.  Due to the diligent work of many, the park has become a beautiful memorial to Bryan and a wonderful place for families to enjoy. 

 With your support of the Bryan C. Pottberg Memorial Golf Tournament we will continue to raise monies for future improvements on the park and the scholarship. We are requesting your support this year with a donation to the raffle prizes. Prizes in the past have included gift cards/certificates, shirts, bottles of wine, hats, and much more.

With the park completed, future monies raised will be used to establish the Bryan C. Pottberg Memorial Scholarship Fund.   We feel this is the best way to continue memorializing Bryan while maintaining awareness of his ultimate sacrifice.  Any item(s) donated to assist in our efforts would be much appreciated.   Thank you in advance for your involvement with this worthy cause.
