Description

The National Red Ribbon Campaign to support substance misuse prevention is celebrating over 35 years!  We need your support again this year to spread awareness about drug and alcohol misuse prevention in our community.

Each year the Delaware County Prevention Council (DCPC), in conjunction with many local agencies and supporters, celebrates this campaign throughout all of Delaware County and in every Delaware County elementary school.  DCPC has provided all public elementary schools in Delaware County with items such as tee shirts, educational materials, and our drug-free message items to celebrate Red Ribbon Week for over 20 years.  This year, Red Ribbon week will be celebrated October 23-31.   We are asking for donations and sponsorships to help us to be able to continue to spread our drug-free message.

This year’s Red Ribbon event will once again be an in person breakfast at Cornerstone Center for the Arts beginning at 8:00 am on Tuesday, October 24th.  The PRIDE team will be performing with a hot buffet breakfast served by Pete’s Catering. This year our speakers will be focusing on the continuing issue of drug overdoses that our county is facing.  Delaware County currently ranks 5th in the state for the number of overdose deaths and 15th for the number of citizens (population).  Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman, Delaware County Coroner Gavin Greene, an Indiana Department of Health Suicide and Overdose Fatality Review Project Coordinator, and a representative from IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital are all scheduled to speak.
