Relay for Life Northwestern
Other Event Type for American Cancer Society Inc./ Relay for LifeMay 13, 2022 6:00 PM to May 14, 2022 6:00 AM
Relay for Life of Northwestern University has been a strong foundation of raising awareness and advocacy for cancer patients and research for over 20 years now. Throughout the year, we focus our efforts on advocacy, fundraising, and outreach, culminating in our final event in May, which is traditionally held in the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion and
Aquatics Center. Our main event will take place on Friday, May 13 at 6 pm and will last 12 hours overnight until 6 AM on Saturday, May 14.
During this 12 hour event period, a portion of the event is dedicated to
remembering why we are fighting back against cancer and celebrating the
individuals who are going through treatment currently and those who have won
their battle with cancer. This takes place throughout a series of ceremonies,
including the most notable one, the Luminaria Ceremony. During the Luminaria
Ceremony, we also acknowledge and remember those in our lives who have lost
their battle to cancer.
Outside of these ceremonies, we want the event to be a celebration of what we
have accomplished throughout the year and the funds we have raised for the
American Cancer Society. We have performance-based student groups come to
the event to entertain participants, athletic teams participate in food-eating
contests with participants, and bring in other outsides entertainers (including a
hypnotist and yoga instructor). Overall, we fill the 12 hours with various
activities, events, and ceremonies to engage all of our participants.
