Description

The educational opportunities at Rooftop TK-8 go far beyond the basics and cost a lot more than the limited programming funds accessible via the California state budget alone. Our public school supports children from at least 13 ZIP codes in San Francisco; approximately 45% of our students qualify for free & reduced lunch. Rooftop PTA resources support:

- Instructors & materials for garden, STEAM, sensory motor, library

- Tutoring in middle school

- Outdoor Environmental Education Trips for 6th and 8th graders

- An art-education program including art parent coordinator

- Technology support

- Social-emotional support

- Supplemental staff, school supplies, teacher stipends for the classrooms, and much more.

To maintain the quality and depth of the programs at our school, we need the support of our entire school community to raise at least $400,000 during the school year. Our annual Children's Art Show and Auction typically raises more than 50% of this goal. We typically get 30-40% of the parent body and 85-90% of our faculty and staff to attend either the gala, the online auction, or both. Our attendees & participants spend an average of $900 per person. Our best selling items include family-oriented entertainment tickets, wine, vacation homes, and restaurant gift certificates. In short, we love our local businesses in San Francisco, but our parent body also enjoys all that the wider Bay Area and California has to offer. A large number of attendees are savvy with social media and many of them work in the tech industry. Many of our parents are motivated to spend at charity events because their employers offer corporate matching.

To sum up: We have a fun group of parents who like an excuse to party, especially if it benefits our kids!
