Description

On May 12, 2023, parents, staff, alumni, and friends of Rosemont Elementary School (Rosemont) will come together for Rosemont Through the Decades; A Centennial Celebration. The Rosemont Schools Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has planned this momentous fundraising event to celebrate the integral part Rosemont plays in the fabric of the Oak Cliff community and the mark its alumni have made here at home and around the world over the last 100 years.
Rosemont, a Title 1 campus, is a proud part of the Dallas Independent School District. Consisting of two adjacent campuses, upper (4th – 8th) and lower (pre-K-3rd), our student body is made up of nearly 1,000 learners representing diverse backgrounds. Rosemont continually strives to celebrate differences and create a culture of inclusion and acceptance among students. The Rosemont Schools PTA (PTA) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit association that prides itself on being a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for our families and our community, and a strong advocate for public education. The PTA’s fundraising efforts help address gaps in funding for opportunities directly linked to improving the social, emotional, and cognitive learning of our entire student body. Our fundraising goal of $30,000 will support the following projects in the 2023/24 school year:
• A comprehensive plan to green the schoolyards at both upper and lower campuses to bring more classroom instruction outdoors and provide green communal spaces designed to foster socioemotional health. Research shows that higher levels of greenness on school grounds buffers symptoms such as stress and anxiety lowering the risks of mental health conditions, including depression. Outdoor environment-based instruction is also linked to better performance on standardized measures of academic achievement across disciplines, improved critical thinking and decision-making skills, and reduced discipline problems.
• Adding lighting and replacing outdated audiovisual equipment in the lower campus auditorium. At a time when the proportion of students across the nation receiving arts education has shrunk drastically, Rosemont continues to offer art, dance, music, and theater. As the school’s upper campus is undergoing renovations that include a state-of-the-art auditorium, funded through the DISD 2015 Bond Program, updating the lower campus will provide a more seamless transition for students through Rosemont’s thriving fine arts program.
