Salem’s Light conducts routine targeted community outreach initiatives - the main activity of our organization - in underserved neighborhoods in metro Richmond. After identifying a dog potentially in need of assistance, volunteers approach the dog’s owner and offer free supplies (food, collars, leashes, toys, sturdy dog houses), encourage and provide free spay and neuter, and recommend other efforts to improve the dog’s living conditions and care. These outreach trips are conducted throughout the year.

In addition, we partner with our local animal control agency and other organizations to provide free veterinary clinics to the same population. We also provide owners of pets who are vaccinated at these clinics with basic supplies as needed and often assist with veterinary care needed above what is available at the clinics.

We will be hosting on online auction in late-November, the proceeds of which will fund free spay/neuter surgeries and routine veterinary care for dogs in need.
