The Mission of the PKD Foundation (Polycystic Kidney Disease) is to promote programs of research, advocacy, education, support, and awareness in order to discover treatments and a cure for PKD and improve the lives of all it affects.  The Walk for PKD is the signature fundraiser event for the Foundation.  The PKD Foundation released the first treatment for PKD in 2018 due to the success of all walks and other fundraising events.  This treatment is not for everyone, but it has opened the doors for newer and better treatments for all people living with PKD. 

I have personally lost 5 family members to PKD before the age of 55 (including my sister and father). After two years on dialysis, i was given the chance of a new life with a kidney transplant from a coworker in 12/05.  With retirement in 2009, I knew it was my "job" to raise awareness for PKD. The San Antonio Walk for PKD is scheduled for 9/14/19 at OP Schnabel Park in San Antonio with over 500 attendees.  The walk is 100% driven by volunteers impacted by PKD.  Here is a link to the walk website (and the photos from the 2018 walk are a great overview of our fun, family event as we raise awareness for PKD and money for research for PKD:  www.walkforpkd.org/sanantonio
