Description

The Mission of the PKD Foundation (Polycystic Kidney Disease) is to promote programs of research, advocacy, education, support, and awareness in order to discover treatments and a cure for PKD and improve the lives of all it affects.  The Walk for PKD is the signature fundraiser event for the Foundation (entirely managed by dedicated volunteers).  The PKD Foundation released the first treatment for PKD in 2018 due to the success of all walks and other fundraising events.  This treatment is not for everyone, but it has opened the doors for newer and better treatments for all people living with PKD.

I have personally lost 5 family members to PKD before the age of 55 (incuding my sister and father).  After two years on dialysis, I was given the gift of life with a kidney transplant from a coworker in 12/05.  My brother is status post kidney transplant 16 years and every day has been a struggle over the past year. Our youngest sister, age 53, is preparing for home hemodialysis and listed for a kidney transplant.  Upon retirement in 2009, I knew it was  "job" to raise awareness for PKD and organ donation.  The San Antonio Walk for PKD is scheduled for 9/12/2020 at OP Schnabel Park, San Antonio, with over 400 attendees.  Here is a link to the walk website as we raise awareness for PKD and money for research and education for PKD:  www.walkforpkd.org/sanantonio

We are seeking donations from the San Antonio Communty for fundraising incentives, top fundraiser awards, and more. As a long-time member of the San Antonio Botanical Gardens, I know tickets to the garden would be a great addition.  Donations may be sent as follows:  Patti O'Grady Ruffin, 2211 Deerfield Wood, San Antonio, TX 78248.  If you have any questions, please contact me at 210-414-6614
