Description

Scarborough Love Auction will raise funds to support the unmet holistic health needs of residents in the Scarborough community who experience health inequities, related to many factors including race, poverty, immigration status and much more. Funds raised towards our goal of $20,000 will support three underfunded but priority program areas: Youth and Children, Palliative and Hospice Care, and Seniors.

At Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities (SCHC), we have been providing health and community programs and services in Scarborough for over 45 years. Last year alone, we totaled over 10,000 service provider interactions. Our health programs support individuals and their families when dealing with illness, chronic disease, or facing the end of their life. We have community programs like our Food and Furniture Banks, Active Living Centre, Mind and Spirit Youth Leadership and EarlyON Child and Family Centre that provide support and encourage meaningful community engagement for vulnerable seniors, youth, and newcomers. SCHC has 42 programs over 10 sites and continues to grow. However, most of our government funding is specific to only some of our programs and services. With no cost-of-living increases for several years, we are continually challenged to cover basic overhead and infrastructure costs.

Funds raised in 2021 helped deliver youth-led programs, including an in-person summer camp, and provided 1,498 adults and seniors with wellness checks and activity kits. We also raised enough to provide 5,558 more meals than the previous year to vulnerable seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Thank you for supporting SCHC in giving our community health and hope.
