Our event consists of both an online auction as well as an in-person reception. We plan to hold the auction from September 29-Oct. 9. The in-person reception will be an afternoon reception in Sonoma to share more information about our program. This will all be part of our fundraising efforts to raise $30,000 to suppport our work to increase cross-cultural understanding and access to education. Before the pandemic, we would host groups of North American volunteers every year on service trips. These volunteers (many of whom come from Sonoma county) travel to Central America to build schools and participate in eye-opening cross-cultural experiences. As around 50% of these volunteers are youth, we also provide travel scholarships to make the trips more affordable to over 130 youth. We are excited to be in the process of revitalizing our Work Group program and have already offered two groups the chance to travel to Oaxaca, Mexico where volunteers worked closely with women from an indigenous community to help improve the education and conditions in their community.
