Established in 1999, the group is an all-volunteer effort to save abandoned and mistreated Basset hounds for the love of the breed. Rescued Bassets are from pounds or shelters, are strays whose owners cannot be found, or are relinquished by owners who no longer want or can afford them. Orphaned Bassets come into DBHR foster care, where they are loved and cared for until a permanent adoptive home can be found. DBHR also provides veterinary care, which includes vaccinations, heartworm, and fecal tests as well as spaying or neutering. Occasionally these costs can be extraordinary, (last year our Veterinary expenses were over $24,000) but Basset Hound Rescue is dedicated to the welfare of the breed, and when a rescued Basset is placed in a loving adoptive home to live the rest of his/her life, it makes it all worth it! Droopy Basset Rescue of Western PA, Inc. is also dedicated to education on such topics as pet overpopulation, proper nutrition and care, prevention of heartworm disease, and the necessity of spay/neuter programs. SLOBBERFEST, our largest yearly fundraiser and publicity push, is being held this year on July 12th. What is Slobberfest, you ask? It's a gathering of over 400 like-minded individuals, and their hounds, who dedicate this day to financially supporting Droopy Basset Hound Rescue of Western Pennsylvania while enjoying silly Basset Hound Games, the raffles, the food and the comradery of our other supporters.

This fundraising event includes a large Raffle. We are writing this letter to request an item or gift certificate to put on our raffle tables. Each raffle item/gift certificate donated, is listed in our event program booklet along with the donor's company's name, address and web site or phone number. Most of the people who attend are pet owners who love anything that relates to Bassets or pets in general, but people also come just to check out our Raffle, after 26 yrs., knowing they will get a chance at amazing non-pet items too! People come from all over Western Pennsylvania as well as other states as far away as California and Florida! Last year we raised over $9,000 with raffle donations from generous vendors like you. We would greatly appreciate anything you could donate to make our raffle table even better than last year.

Unlike many of the larger non-profit organizations, DBHR's volunteers do not receive a wage or salary for their time, so all monies raised by your donation go directly to fund the care of rescued Basset hounds.
