Helen Woodward Animal Center, a unique non-profit organization in San Diego County that is committed to the philosophy of “people helping animals and animals helping people.” The overall goal of the Center is to not only save the lives of as many orphaned animals as possible, but also to provide valuable community programs that help animals and people in need, as well as strengthen the animal-human bond through humane education and training. 

Our Adoptions program saves the lives of nearly 3,000 pets each year and another 7,000 are impacted through the companion animal and equine hospitals, boarding facility, and AniMeals in partnership with Meals On Wheels. Pet Encounter Therapy reaches nearly 20,000 children and adults annually and the Therapeutic Riding program serves 55 clients each week. Approximately 15,000 children receive humane education each year through our Critter Camp as well as special tours and group visits. Not only do we educate on a local level, but with our Animal Center Education Services, we are able to teach the “business of saving lives” globally as well.

As a non-profit organization, the Center relies heavily on the generous support of the local community. As our largest fundraising event, the Spring Fling Gala, has grown tremendously since its inception and will be celebrating its 31st year in 2019. We are optimistic that we will exceed the nearly $315,000 that was raised in 2018. The Gala is an impressive formal event, with live music, cocktails, silent and live auctions, opportunity drawings, and features a collection of 17 restaurants from the local area showcasing selections from their menu—all to an audience of 450 preferred guests.
