Imagine the fear, desperation, and panic that comes with not knowing where you’re going to lay your head at night or where your next meal will come from. Further, imagine if you were a parent and responsible for the lives of small children and were unable to provide them with a safe place to call home.

Most Americans are one crisis away from homelessness and lacking a sufficient amount of savings to cover emergency costs.

“Approximately 63% of Americans have no emergency savings for things such as an emergency room visit or a car repair…” By living paycheck to paycheck, families rarely have a chance to catch up on bills, let alone add anything to a savings account to help cover unexpected emergency bills (Market Watch). “More than four in ten Americans either experienced a major unexpected expense over the last 12 months or have an immediate family member who had an unexpected expense.”

Family Promise of Sussex County is a 501(c)3, nonprofit organization that has been serving the homeless in Sussex County for over 20 years. The agency provides assistance to at-risk and homeless households in the form of rental assistance, case management, emergency shelter, life skill training seminars, and emotional and psychological support and referral services to meet the needs of those faced with a housing crisis. In 2019, Family Promise of Sussex County worked with 230 households to stabilize housing and provide for long-term housing stability.

A Spring in Bloom Ball is planned for March 30, 2019. The event will be held at Black Bear Golf Club, a Crystal Springs Resort, in Hamburg, NJ. The event will include a silent and live auction. Proceeds will support agency programming and services.
