Description

KSAR was founded by Charlotte Maxwell-Jones, a US citizen from Tennessee, as a veterinary clinic and animal shelter in Afghanistan, to help animals in need. KSAR rescues abandoned, sick, and injured animals, and works to bring them back to health and find them permanent homes. It also serves as an emergency veterinary clinic in Kabul. In 2019, KSAR was registered as a veterinary clinic in Afghanistan. In 2020, KSAR, a US domestic non-profit, was designated a 501(c)3 Charitable Organization.

KSAR is an extraordinary charity operating under uniquely daunting geopolitical circumstances in Afghanistan. On January 30, 2022, KSAR conducted the largest animal rescue in history, when it evacuated 286 animals to safety in North America. This evacuation included the animals left behind in the dramatic fall of Afghanistan in August 2021. In the last two years, KSAR has continued to transport retired working dogs to a K9 rescue group in the US. KSAR has reunited a working dog with her U.S. military handler and has rehomed numerous cats and dogs to the US and UK.

The costs of rescuing these animals and keeping them sheltered and fed and cared for is staggering. There are currently about 450 animals in residence in Kabul or at its nearby sanctuary farm, and many are permanent residents. KSAR’s need for funds for food, rent, utilities, medical supplies and equipment, as well as veterinary and caretakers, is immense. KSAR is supported entirely by private donations and occasional grants, including a grant recently from Athletes for Animals. KSAR receives no funding from any government. KSAR has a worldwide audience on social media, with 90,000 subscribers on Facebook, 260 supporters on Patreon, and other supporters in the animal rescue community..

KSAR’s first silent auction in June 2023 was successful, raising about $18,000 in funds for our animals. We hope to make this year’s auction even more successful. We are reaching out to your organization to be part of this event by donating an item or items that our supporters would like to bid on and purchase. Our event, hosted by the platform Galabid, starts May 3 and runs until May 11, 2024. All proceeds raised will help pay for food, shelter, caretaking, and medical care for our animals in Kabul.
