Event Details

STEP UP! is a virtual 5K walk or run event, it is open to the public and we highly encourage families with children, company employees, community groups and fitness gurus to sign up!  What a great way to get moving while helping those in need across San Diego.

To keep everyone safe during the pandemic our 2020 event will be held virtually in locations across the county instead of at a single spot as we did for 2019 at Mission Bay Park.  This allows participants to build awareness about homelessness in more cities across San Diego and show their support in their own neighborhoods.

STEP UP! covers six days starting Sunday, November 1 and finishing up on Friday, November 6 to offer our participants a chance to choose the best day, time and location that suits their needs. We hope this multi-day event will allow families with children, company employees, community groups and fitness buffs the opportunity to participate in one or more days while sporting their STEP UP! Walk t-shirt and signage.

Every step counts in this fight to end homelessness across San Diego.  Join HomeAid San Diego in partnership withand NAIOP as we raise awareness and funds to build more housing and shelters for San Diego’s homeless men, women and children.

*NEW* Voices for the Homeless Competition
For 2020, we want to hear from each of you about why homeless lives matter and why we should work harder to see that every person has a warm bed to sleep in every night.

As a NEW competition, we want event participants to create one of the following:  a short film, poem, song, painting, street art or other audio-visual artform that answers one of the following questions:

– Why do Homeless Lives Matter in San Diego?

– How does homelessness impact our San Diego communities?

– Why are YOU walking or running to help end homelessness?

– What ideas do you have for trying to reduce the number of homeless living unsheltered in San Diego?

HomeAid San Diego will select top submissions to share on HomeAid San Diego’s Facebook Page, on YouTube and on our website in the weeks leading up to the event.

Additionally, the top three submissions will win:

First Place – $300 donation to a nonprofit supporting the homeless in San Diego, name recognition with your entry shared on HomeAid San Diego’s website, social channels and with the local media

Second Place – $150 donation to a nonprofit supporting the homeless in San Diego, name recognition with your entry shared on HomeAid San Diego’s website, social channels and with local media

Third Place – $100 donation to a nonprofit supporting the homeless in San Diego, name recognition with your entry shared on HomeAid San Diego’s website, social channels and with local media

Submit your contest entries to info@homeaidsd.org starting Aug. 17 through October 31.
