Description

Beech Community Services in partnership with the 22nd Police District is bringing the Jazz on the Ave “Still We Rise” festival to Cecil B. Moore Avenue on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 11am-8pm. This collaborative community event which stretches along Cecil B. Moore Avenue from Broad to 17th Street is expected to attractive hundreds of attendees which includes neighborhood residents, law enforcement officers, public officials, and special guests.

The Jazz on the Ave “Still We Rise” free outdoor community event will commemorate the past, present, and future of the neighborhood as well as celebrate family and community.  The “Still We Rise” theme is the catalyst to help foster civic engagement between police and residents who live and or work in the community.  Given the current state of the Cecil B. Moore community, gun violence is at an all-time high and young people in particular are senselessly losing their lives so, it is imperative that the community and the police unify for the betterment of all people.  One life loss to gun violence has an emotional impact on the entire community, therefore an event such as the Jazz on the Ave “Still We Rise” festival is needed.

The event will focus on uplifting the community through live music performances, children’s activities, health and wellness screenings, social services, vendors, food, speakers, and more.  The festival will also aide in bringing awareness to gun violence, the mental health crisis, victims of abuse, housing inequity, financial education, benefits services, workforce development, health and nutrition.

Relationship building and innovative partnerships with community stakeholders, organizations, and institutions is significant to both the 22nd Police District and Beech Community Services.  These collaborations assist us all in identifying the immediate needs and concerns of the neighborhood that negatively or positively impact the quality of life for the residents that live here.  As Beech continues to play an important role in boosting the morale of the community post the COVID pandemic, the resurgence of “Jazz on the Ave” is a necessary and welcoming distraction from the crime and violence plaguing our community.

Sponsoring or donating to the festival will support the festival and both, the 22nd District Police Department Advisory Council (PDAC) in its efforts to provide comprehensive outreach/engagement in the community, and the Beech Scholarship Fund which offers $1,000 educational scholarships to Philadelphia County high school seniors and current undergraduate students of color who are attending or currently enrolled at Temple University, Community College of Philadelphia, Lincoln University and Cheyney University.

Beech Community Services is always open to donations of goods, and/or volunteer services that you may have to offer for this event.  If you are interested in this donation opportunity, please let me know!
