Description

Gooseberry Park Players is excited to announce The SpongeBob Musical as their 2022 summer musical.  Based on the characters from the Nickelodeon classic, the stage version of The SpongeBob Musical features a score that includes such artists as David Bowe, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! at the Disco, Sara Bareilles, John Legend, and more.  The show's libretto was written by Kyle Jarrow.  The Broadway production was co-conceived and directed by Tina Landau and has quickly become a popular hit with audiences both young and old.

The show takes place in the undersea city of Bikini Bottom, inhabited by the happy-go-lucky and ever-optimistic yellow sea sponge, SpongeBob SquarePants, and his equally quirky circle of friends and neighbors.  SpongeBob's pleasant existence is abruptly interrupted when it is discovered that Mt. Humongous, a nearby volcano, will erupt within the next 48 hours and completely obliterate the town of Bikini Bottom.  SpongeBob, trying to prove to himself and the world that he is not "just a simple sponge," resolves to save the day when everybody else has given up all hope.

The SpongeBob Musical is filled with a significant number of principal and featured roles for young performers of all genders, as well as a very active ensemble.  The show will be performed July 18-24 at Horizon Middle School's Performing Arts Center.

Guided by the belief that every child deserves a theatre opportunity, the mission of Gooseberry Park Players is to provide an exceptional, fee-free unique educational and multi-generational summer theatre experience for youth ages 11 to 18 of all abilities.  The company began in 1982 at Moorhead, Minnesota's Gooseberry Mound Park.  Our productions are based on classic and contemporary dramatic literature designed to intrique, inform, educate, and entertain a family audience.  Learn more at http://www.gooseberryparkplayers.org/
