Description

Huntingdon Valley Library’s Summer Learning Program theme for this year, Adventure Begins at Your Library, encourages patrons to venture outside. Our hope is that this year’s theme will help patrons participating in the program to be more courageous and experience more adventures in their daily lives.

The Summer Learning Program will run for just over 6 weeks from June 22-August 4. Summer Learning Programs promote literacy for all ages by keeping youth engaged in reading and encouraging adults to read with their children, as well as providing family activities for those who might not be able to otherwise afford them.

In addition to reading challenges, the library will also host fun and educational events for all ages. New this year, we will begin with a Summer Learning Kick-Off Party for all ages, featuring a DJ, crafts, games, and light refreshments. Other events include family performances by The Raptory, band Ants on a Log, storyteller Thembi Palmer, and Andrew’s Big Show; a children’s music class with Music Play Patrol; Family Bingo Night; comedy improv and birding classes with the Adult Social Group; art classes for teens & adults; STEM events for elementary students; Tai Chi classes for adults; a bedroom makeover workshop, taste test adventure, geocache scavenger hunt, and library Olympics for teens; Crafternoons and outdoor activities for children; Adult Book Club; Storytimes; and more!

One of the main ways that we build excitement for the Summer Learning Program is through raffle prizes. Patrons receive raffle tickets by reaching reading goals, attending events, writing book reviews, and completing educational activities. Prize donations from community businesses in the past have included gift certificates, free tickets or services, coupons, and physical items. We understand that not every business is in a position to contribute, but we would greatly appreciate it if you are able to donate something toward our cause. In addition to any donations being tax deductible, all donors will receive public recognition in our online and print Summer Learning Program publicity materials (website, newsletter, program brochures, Facebook, Instagram, events, online reading software, etc.).
