Description

Frederick County Public Libraries is a modern midsized public library system in Maryland, and our mission is to offer the best possible library services to the people in our community.

Each year, FCPL’s annual summer reading program, the Summer Challenge, is the BIGGEST and most anticipated event. The Summer Challenge is about lifelong learning, and everyone can participate, from babies to seniors in retirement.

Last year, over 10,000 people were reading together all summer long. This is a big deal because studies show that public library-supported summer reading programs can help school-aged children gain and retain important academic skills when they’re out of the classroom. A problem made worse by the effects of the pandemic. And we know that students are more likely to read when families are reading together.

This year, the need is extremely high, and we’re expecting a dramatic increase in participation in our annual summer reading program. And we need your help.

If you’re able, please consider supporting the library’s Summer Challenge so more students can return to the classroom in the fall ready to read and succeed.
