Description

Frederick County Public Libraries is a modern, mid-sized public library system in Maryland, and we work to provide the best possible library services and programs to the people in our community.

Each year, FCPL’s annual summer reading program, the Summer Challenge, is the BIGGEST and most anticipated event. The Summer Challenge is about lifelong learning, and everyone can participate, from babies to seniors in retirement.

Last year, nearly 12,000 people read along with us. WOW! A 276% increase in participation since 2020. This is so important because studies have shown that public library-supported summer reading programs can help school-aged children develop and retain academic skills when they’re out of the classroom. We also know that students are more likely to read when families read together.

This year, the need is extremely high as we strive to keep pace with the overwhelming demand for library programs and services. And we need your help.

If you’re able, please consider supporting the library’s Summer Challenge so more students can return to the classroom in the fall ready to read and succeed.
