The TD Summer Reading Club is an inclusive, barrier free summer reading program for kids of all ages, interests and abilities. The Club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories, and inspires kids to explore the fun of reading their way. This is key to building a lifelong love of reading. Children and their caregivers aged 0 to 12 participate in this program by registering in the library and work towards their reading goals, earning rewards along the way and participating in complementary programming at the library. This program also has a component for youth aged 12 to 17 who participate by challenging themselves to read books over the course of the summer earning a ballot per novel completed.
At the end of the summer there are bigger prize draws and a fun wrap up event.
In 2023, over 7200 people connected with LPPL through summer activities! In total, 495 children and 73 teenagers in Lincoln and Pelham participated with 100% of caregivers reported their child maintained or increased their reading skills over the summer. The most popular in person programs for children during the summer was Makerspace (engaging youth in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), Story Time, and a new program the Preschool Social (preliteracy skills and social connections).
TD Summer Reading Club is our most important literacy program, and it kicks off July 7 and wraps up August 23.
