Preschoolers and school age children participate in a summer reading program and read 1 1/2 hours per week as well as complete a weekly educational worksheet  Student volunteers sign up for 2 hour slots to help with the program as it runs nonstop for 5 weeks from July to August. The library hires a petting zoo and brings in an ice cream truck as incentives to kick off the event for the township and neighboring townships which is quite an expense.  We also purchase small weekly incentives for the children.  But, it is always great to have something for the volunteers who spend a lot of their free time with us during the summer to help with this yearly program.
