Description

We are so excited to announce that the 11th annual Swing For A Cure, Fighting Sarcoma by Celebrating Lives Kick-Off Party and Golf Tournament will be back in person on June 23rd and 24th for the first time since 2019! Both events help support MUSC Hollings Cancer Center’s Comprehensive Sarcoma Center in Charleston, South Carolina, by providing substantial funding for research and clinical trials. Hollings Cancer Center is the only NCI-Designated Cancer Center in the state.

Swing For A Cure is hosted in memory of three courageous men Travis Branch, Eric Crawford and Roger Allen. These three men fought long battles against different types of sarcoma cancer. Additionally, both are hosted to honor of all people currently fighting sarcoma and all the families who have been affected by this rare form of cancer.

In the United States, there are approximately 13,000 new cases of sarcoma diagnosed annually. Sarcoma is a cancer of the connective tissue (i.e. bone, muscle, fat, nerves, tendons, blood vessels, and cartilage). Because these tissues are found everywhere on the body, sarcomas can arise anywhere. However, the most frequent location are the limbs since this is where the majority of the body’s connective tissue resides. Though rare in adults, sarcoma makes up about 20% of all childhood cancer. Unfortunately, in the last 20 years treatment options have hardly advanced due to sarcoma being overlooked in national funding. For advancements to be made and for new treatments to become available, it is crucial for funding efforts to focus on sarcoma.

Thank you so much for joining us as an auction donor this year for the Kick-Off Party for Swing For A Cure! All proceeds will directly benefit the Comprehensive Sarcoma Center at the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, a 501(c)(3) organization (tax ID# 57-6028985).

Thank you for your support in helping to raise funds and awareness for sarcoma cancer research and clinical trials.
