Description

SBA was founded on a Fort Worth kitchen table by three mothers whose children were victims of Shaken Baby Syndrome and could find no resources or support. We obtained our 501(c)3 status in 1998 and continue to meet our mission of preventing child and elder abuse with three programs: Victim Family Support, Professional Support (Training and Case Consultation), and Prevention Education.

Although we deal with families during a crisis, we strive to help them feel joy despite experiencing a life-changing situation. We are here to serve families by providing resources, being an active listener and support system, and working together to get justice for their families. These acts of service strengthen our relationship with the families we serve and make everyone feel better about life.

We have served over 6,000 victim family members at no charge to them. We reach families left behind and not served by other programs. Our children and elders who survive physical abuse often have life-long disabilities due to injuries. The grief never ends for those whose children or loved ones are deceased. Many of our families have been served for 20+ years and SBA has helped with various needs from birth through adulthood. SBA’s award-winning training programs have taught best practice standards using an evidence-informed curriculum to over 28,000 professionals in the field of forensics. We have provided technical support on over 2,000 cases, requested by investigative and legal professionals on complex physical abuse and death cases. Our When Babies Cry…We C.O.P.E. child abuse prevention program, developed in partnership with the State Bar of Texas Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect, has been free to over 11,000 students so they learn how to cope with crying – the #1 cause of child physical abuse.

This year The Shaken Baby Alliance's is hosting a fundraising event to help raise money to support our three programs and continue to protect the most vulnerable among us. In 2021, with the help of our community and other supporters, we hosted the We Love Kids Telethon, an entertainment extravaganza, raising funds for those in need while providing a day of much-needed fun and laughter in our community free of charge. It was an incredible opportunity. We are so thankful we had the resources to help realize that event. That is why we need your support for Tailgating for Tots Telethon. The telethon is hybrid, with a live nationwide feed from a local Fort Worth lounge. It is 90 minutes long, with entertainment, victim statements, and a live auctioneer. Funds raised will be used to support our three programs of support for victims and professionals, child abuse prevention, and justice for the innocent victims.
