Description

The annual Summer Reading Program is the largest, free summer enrichment program available to Orange County Students. During the program, the Library will host a variety of live, virtual events this summer including cultural performances, technology classes, STEAM camps, arts and crafts, music performances, science demonstrations, and reading challenges.

This year's theme is Tails and Tales. Early learners (ages 0–5), Kids (ages 6–12) and Teens (ages 13–18) will dive into the depths of their imagination while reading and learning all about the fascinating wildlife found in nature.

Following the State of Florida Educational Standards for Development, OCLS encourages children to read 20 minutes per day, every day. Completion is achieved by reading at least 10hours before the end of summer. Children can track their reading and the number of Library events they attend during the program. At the end of the summer, students who meet the required reading/attendance goals are entered into a drawing for prizes.

These fun and engaging rewards motivate children to read, and it excites them to pick up another book … and then another! With the support of our community partners, our free Summer Reading Program helps combat learning loss during the school break by providing free, educational (and fun!) programs that will ready our young people for school each fall.
