George Albro was a pillar of the Worcester State Community. He was a talented athlete and a beloved coach. Despite having no sight in one eye, he was a play-making point guard who completed a record number of assists at Worcester State, where he led the '61-62 team to a state championship. He coached Boys Basketball and Baseball at Leicester High over a span of 17 years and later served as Assistant and then Head Basketball Coach at Worcester State, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998. Sadly, George passed away in 2021. To honor him and the impact that he had at Worcester State, it was decided that we would name our annual Athletics golf tournament in his honor to celebrate his legacy within our Athletics department and his love of golf.
