Description

For a consecutive year, the Lubbock area has had the second-highest rate of child abuse in Texas. On average, three children a day are victims of abuse or neglect in Lubbock County. Many of these children are placed in foster care with uncertain futures. Less than 50% of foster children will graduate from high school and more than 25% will serve time in jail.

Partnering with One Heart Orphan Alliance, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and the Guadalupe Parkways Centers, the Lubbock Arts Alliance has developed and implemented several art-based programs which serve the most vulnerable in our community – at risk children, ages 6-14.

More than 1,900 children are served each year with weekly visual art and music classes, summer camps, and visits to the Lubbock Arts Festival. All professional art instruction, supplies, and instruments are provided at no cost to children or their families.

We think our student, Steven (age 11) says it best: “I like camp because we can always see joy in each other and our art.”

We know that art education leads to increased self-confidence and self-understanding, enhanced communication skills, and improved cognition for children that participate. Research conducted by the Texas Cultural Trust shows that academic achievement, school attendance, and graduation rates are significantly higher when students are engaged in the arts.

We invite you to begin an investment in these worthwhile efforts by becoming a sponsor of our newest fundraiser, The Wishing Bowl Event. Scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2022 in the Banquet Hall of the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

The Wishing Bowl Event will be a lovely evening featuring food, drink, entertainment, silent and live auction, and cash bar. We have partnered with our friends at the Llano Estacado Clay Guild and all attendees will get to choose a handmade piece of pottery to take home as a keepsake from the event. Best of all, you will get to meet some of our art students, hear their stories, meet their familes, and enjoy their talents. It will be a wonderful night for all!
