Description

Angel Adalida, a Texas based 501(c)(3), is proud to announce its Fifth Annual Fundraiser “Two-Step for Adalida” on Saturday, September 9th, 2023.  Two-Step for Adalida has an average attendance of close to 300 people per event. From this event along with other fundraising activities over the last few years, Angel Adalida has raised over $170,000. These funds went directly to Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital for research to fight HLH. Angel Adalida is focused on raising awareness of and aiding those fighting in the battle against hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH)--a severe systemic inflammatory syndrome that is often fatal.  The organization focuses on devoting funds to aiding in research for possible treatments and cures, providing financial aid to those who need assistance in paying for medical bills, travel, and treatment costs as well as assisting families of those dealing with this rare disease.

HLH is usually found in children, and occurs when histiocytes and lymphocytes attack the body instead of just bacteria and viruses.  When certain cells become overactive and cause too much inflammation, the person’s own immune system begins to damage the body’s tissues and organs such as the liver, brain and bone marrow.  By attacking the body, HLH causes multi-organ failure requiring the patient to receive a variety of organ and marrow transplants, as well as complicated procedures in the effort to fight to live.  Since HLH can be either familial (passed down genetically) or acquired (typically through auto-immune viruses), in most cases the patient and their family will have no idea that the disease is present.  If left undiagnosed and untreated patients typically have only months to live; even with treatment the survival rate for HLH is currently only 54%.

Two-Step for Adalida will be on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at Panna Maria Hall and will include Barbecue, kid’s games, a silent auction and dancing.  We are relying on the partnership of sponsors and donors to ensure this is a successful event and look forward to your involvement.  If you are unable to attend the event there are still many ways you can support this worthwhile cause and be recognized for your generosity.

On behalf of Angel Adalida and those affected by this unique and fatal disease, we thank you for your generosity and consideration and look forward to your assistance in trying to make a difference in the lives of others.
