Uplifting Voices
Other Event Type for Voices for ChildrenMay 13, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
The 2023 Voices for Children Uplifting Voices event will combine inspiring stories, philanthropy, and fun, and is sure to lift up the voices of our community’s most vulnerable children. The program will feature a dynamic conversation with special guests Elizabeth and Stephen Wampler. Stephen has Cerebral Palsy, and over the years he has learned not only to live with his disability, but to thrive with his condition. The nationally and internationally acclaimed film “Wampler’s Ascent” documents Stephen’s amazing accomplishment of being the first person with Cerebral Palsy to climb El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Stephen and his wife Elizabeth now lead the Stephen J. Wampler Foundation, inspiring children with disabilities to achieve their dreams and to lead fulfilling lives.
The Wamplers’ work is particularly relevant to our mission at Voices for Children. Nearly one-third of children in foster care live with physical or intellectual disabilities, and CASAs play a crucial role in advocating to ensure their needs are met. Stephen and Elizabeth will share their own experiences that underscore how important it is for a child living with a disability to have an advocate and a consistent and caring adult in their life. For many children in foster care, that person is their CASA.
Net proceeds will benefit Voices for Children’s CASA program in San Diego County and are raised through sponsorships, Honorary Committee memberships, ticket sales, an opportunity drawing, and a Fund-A-CASA paddle raise.
During the event, attendees will:
•Enjoy music and cocktails on the Del Mar Plaza’s Ocean View Deck with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean
•Graze on gourmet foods and desserts
•Be inspired by our featured speakers Elizabeth and Stephen Wampler, and heartfelt impact stories from our CASA program
•Have a chance to win fabulous prizes through the Opportunity Drawing
•Step up and generously raise their paddles to support vulnerable children living in foster care
