Description

Garland ISD and West Point will host a West Point Leadership, Ethics and Diversity in STEM (LEADS) Conference on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  We help good leaders become better leaders of character, enabling them to make decisions as they confront ethical challenges in school and beyond.  WPSNT would be honored if your organization would be a sponsor for the conference.

LEADS 2024 will use an ethical decision-making curriculum and framework developed by the United States Military Academy at West Point. We will partner with West Point, UT Dallas, UT Arlington, University of North Texas, and Texas Women's University to help facilitate sessions for 300 middle and high school students to develop solutions to leadership and ethical challenges typically young adults face. There will also be keynote speakers who will share their perspectives on why ethics are fundamental to leadership.

The West Point LEADS Workshops are also designed to engage students at the middle school and lower high school levels (ages 11-15). This commitment is in response to the national need to increase STEM competent leaders, as a shortage of talent threatens the country’s ability to drive innovation, compete internationally, and protect national security. This national need coincides with a need from within the United States Army for officers that represent the nation they serve and who can effectively lead in an increasingly complex multicultural operational environment. West Point LEADS Workshops encourage students to self-assess and explore leadership and the very important role that ethics plays within character development. West Point LEADS Workshops are full-day events designed to expose students to STEM activities and disciplines, as well as expose students to STEM careers opportunities in the military.  Additionally, Educator and Influencer Sessions are held during these workshops to provide more information about West Point and career opportunities in the military.
