As you probably know, People Helping People is the umbrella organization for the Burlington Food Pantry, the Holiday Wish Tree and the Covenant for Basic Needs. These three non-profit and volunteer-supported organizations are striving to meet the necessities of Burlington residents who have been hit hardest by the economic downturn and the recent pandemic.
In 2021, People Helping People distributed 133 Thanksgiving meals to Burlington families in need and gave out over 2,000 gifts to children through their Wish Tree program! On average, the Burlington Community Food Pantry serves 130 households per month, distributing 22,500 pounds of food throughout the month. On average, the Burlington Community Food Pantry serves 343 individuals per month including 119 children and 57 seniors.
Fundraising is critical to our ability to continue providing support for the hundreds of needy people in our community. With the generous help of the Café Escadrille, we are planning the 10th Annual Wine Tasting and Charity Auction at the Café Escadrille on February 26th. Your donation of goods or services for our auction can provide a significant contribution to our fundraising, and your company’s generosity will be acknowledged in our printed program, to be distributed to over 175 guests that afternoon. Our last event was in February of 2020 (prior to the pandemic) and that event was sold out with a waiting list!
In 2022 we opened a new facility to house our Food Pantry and the ability to help us expanded the services we offer the members of our community. Obviously, there is additional expense with the new facility as well as the ability to offer additional services.
