Description

On Saturday, November 13, 2021, Literacy Volunteers–HBPL (Huntington Beach Public Library) will host our 8th annual “Wine & Words” fundraiser.  We are a volunteer-driven non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of others.  This year’s event will again include items to be auctioned as well as international best-selling author Kaira Rouda speaking about her writing.  Some program facts of note are:

·         Tutoring cost to learners is zero

·         100% of learners achieved at least one goal, such as attaining new/or better employment, reading to their children, or attaining citizenship

·         Over 11,000 volunteer hours reported last year

·         Learners’ native countries: U.S., Brazil, Egypt, Iran, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, and more

Literacy Volunteers offer free one-to-one and small group tutoring for adults in our community who wish to improve their English literacy skills.  Jane* sought out our literacy program because she struggled with reading and writing on the job. After working with her tutor for less than a year, Jane received a promotion at work with better hours and higher pay.  Stephen* credits time well-spent with his tutor enabled him to go without an interpreter to a conference with his son’s teacher and being able to read the requested paperwork.  Pat* credits the Citizenship class for successfully passing the exam to become a U.S. citizen.

Participants not only improve their own lives but they become active contributing members of our community as they reach their literacy goals.  Goals which can be as simple as reading to a child or as grand as being accepted into college.  Literacy Volunteers–HBPL is an organization filled with dreams and victories.

Will you join us in raising much-needed funds by donating an item of your specialty to help us reach more and to better serve adults in our Orange County neighborhoods?  As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we depend on community support from companies such as yours.  Together we can make our community a better place.  100% of funds raised during this event will go directly to Literacy Volunteers–HBPL.

Sincerely,

Literacy Volunteers Member at Large
