Since 1947, Boys and Girls Clubs of America has implemented a premier recognition program, Youth of
the Year, to celebrate the extraordinary achievement of Club Members who embody the values of
leadership service, academic excellence and healthy lifestyles. Boys & Girls Clubs of Harrisonburg
Rockingham County has mirrored this program to celebrate Club Members’ achievements specifically in
Kindergarten – 5 th grade. 

Candidates Will:
 Consistently demonstrate positive leadership
 Be dedicated to academic excellence
 Make decisions that promote a healthy lifestyle
 Exemplify integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence
 Maintain a desire to grow and be better in all areas of life

Candidate Process
 Every Club Director will choose one Club Member to be their Club’s Youth of The Year
Candidate. They will choose their candidate from the summer and school year programs
Members of the Month.
 Note that our “year” for this program begins in June and ends in May
 Candidate must complete an application – Candidate fills out one part, Director fills out the
other (candidate and Director will highlight specific ways they have demonstrated BGCHR values
throughout the year)
 Club Directors will serve as advisors by helping their nominee complete their applications
 Candidate applications are due May 15 st , 2023. All Directors should turn in applications to
Program Quality & Training Specialist.
 All candidates receive a nomination certificate (and small prize?)
 After reviewing applications, Full Time Staff and Board Members will choose the Youth of The
Year

Youth of the Year
 Receives certificate
 Tangible prize (this is what we are in need of)
 Short speech or appearance on who they are, their Club experience etc.
 Recognition on social media, website, etc.
