F.R.I.E.N.D.S. - Families, Respect, Inspire, Education, Networking, Down syndrome, Special needs – West Florida is a volunteer-based, non-profit 501C3, which was founded in 2007. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. provides free year-round programs, community education, and vital support to our Down syndrome and Special needs community. Our current programs include:
1. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Parent Packets to new & expectant families who learn they are having a child with Down Syndrome or other Special Needs.
2. Parent Liaisons – who reach out and connect with new parents and provide them the emotional support needed.
3. Hospital Outreach – Provided NICU’s with our Parent Packets.
4. Baby FRIENDS – A support Playgroup for parents to connect with other parents.
5. After School Specials – A group for our older tweens to meet up in a safe and inviting environment without the fear of discrimination
6. Adult Special Needs Dances – for those 15yrs and older to meet in a safe environment and get together with their friends.
7. Family Activities – Fun picnics, pool parties and day at the Zoo to advocate, educate and support families who are impacted by Down syndrome or other Special needs.
Our 5th F.R.I.E.N.D.S. BUDDY WALK will take place Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Largo Central Park from 10am-3pm and we invite you to help us as we promote, advocate, and celebrate our Down Syndrome & Special Needs community. This is our largest fundraiser, and your donation can help us to reach our fundraising goal of $50,000! All monies raised benefit our local programs and services, plus we hope to open our own F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Activity Center in 2022! We need In-Kind donations for our raffle.
