Alachua Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. We build affordable homes in partnership with people in need of affordable housing. All of our homeowner families fall in the 40% to 80%AMI (average median income) range, which is low- to moderate-income as defined by HUD. In order to qualify for a Habitat for Humanity home, a family must be willing to partner with Habitat by demonstrating a need for housing, willingness to complete 250 hours working to build their home and someone else's home, attend financial literacy and relevant homeownership classes and they must be able to assume an affordable mortgage payment at the end of the build. We believe that empowering families with the right knowledge will lead to successful, long-term homeownership.

Habitat for Humanity is hand-up not a hand out. Our affiliate has been building homes in Alachua County since 1986. We build all of our houses with community volunteers. The focus of Alachua Habitat for Humanity's cornerstone program is to empower qualifying families in Alachua County to build and buy their own homes. These homes are designed for energy efficiency, for aging-in-place, and for those with special needs.
